It was 2015 month of May.
Her sister had come out of her college and desired a job.
As an elder sister, we all looked at Shrum. We thought if they took her, all the bruises they laid upon her would be forgotten. She passed on the news to a seemingly gentle woman, a manager of theirs then, as part of quality review team.
She said, “you give it to me, we will take it from there.”
She trusted her words.
She send the CV of her sister and waited patiently.
The interview day, her sister walked in. She thought her name would be enough. She asked some random managers if she could put their names in her application. They too, confirmed it was enough if she incorporated shrum’s name.
Maria and her husband were in the panel. She raised up to that level in her ways. They had held hands with Sucheta and she too was taken for the first round corrections.
They all confirmed her sister had done very well in the first rounds.
Then walked in Pure. He took Shrum to a room and closed the door behind, “Why do you want your sister here?”
“It would be nice since we both can work together. We can ease our life a bit.”
“You know to get in, you need to pay money.”
Shrum smiled. She was not sure what it meant.
Instead he could have said that she needed to put his name as the referrers so that he could take the referral bonus.
They could have told her if some extra bucks she needed to pay. She would have done that happily.
Such a stray comment also created a concern in Shrum’s life, if that could drop her in trouble. She might have been send behind the bars if she did something impromptus.
She kept quiet and mumbled a sanctification.
He was probably not satisfied.
Next few days, a southerner came up and said, “Your sister has got selected.”
Shrum thanked profusely. Was there something else she could do more than that?
I was preparing for my exams and I had to beat it. Meanwhile my sister had become a little aloof thanks to her boss.
Lizzy and rom com had passed six months back and they had already got calls from five universities.
Well, on the interview day, the single lone punjabi, other tribes, Sucheta and each one had confirmed they would definitely take her. Meanwhile Sun’s rays had left the organisation somewhere in 2014 and New Kumar had left in 2015 February. In the last years, New Kumar would carry a friend with him if at all he met Shrum in a slightly lonely area like a cafeteria or a copier room.
He would laugh with the friends explaining the emergency of calling a friend right near her. Few of his friends told her the same after he left.
But then, there was no call coming to her sister confirming the position.
Later almost after waiting a month she asked a few managers who asked her to confirm it with the HR. After repeated requests to HR we finally came to know she was never selected neither was she in the waiting list.
They told her such reasons- two siblings can’t be in the same organisation. There were many who worked together in many organisations, she had never come across any such laid rules in the organisation. Even husbands and wives worked together even in their organisation.
You can’t take the bonus for your sister, you must give it to someone else. Why didn’t you tell in the first place?
Meanwhile, the groups suggested to ask her sister to appear for another department. She agreed believing even those rules. But, there also they kept her hanging.
Then she got into another Organization in Analytics stream of life sciences. But, then they called her sister again for a telephonic round almost after a month, she had joined the other organisation.
Shrum’s sister dwindled slightly but then she stuck to her decision continuing in the organisation which gave her a chance.
Two years later, they merged into one organisation.
Her colleagues, Maria and her husband went for training in the sister’s organisation. They were trying to somewhere show Shrum that they were better or they suffered from some strange awkward minds and mentalities.
Shrum did not understand even this part of their behaviour.
Did it arise from the fact that she always felt her sister’s organization was better?
One day, Yashini, her competitor in Suma’s team who rose to the manager level told her,
“You can’t ever join a sister organisation.” One day while conversation she informed her.
Did they think that by showing, that they are training those teams Shrum considered superior meant they are superior. Training was never Shrum’s trouble, she never competed with them. She never thought she was being put down by being shown that they are getting training opportunities and nor Shrum.
